The Institute is funded by the ROCKWOOL Foundation. The ROCKWOOL Foundation is a self-funding and impartial charitable foundation established in 1981. From the outset, the Foundation's stated aim has been to support independent and credible research for the benefit of the general public.

RFBerlin is closely linked to a broad international knowledge network and works closely with its partner in Copenhagen. The goal of the research conducted at RFBerlin is to inform and raise the level of public debate, and to provide the best possible basis for political decision making.

Applied and data driven research for a project about migration flows across African countries and to Europe

Working field:

The ROCKWOOL Foundation Berlin– Institute for the Economy and the Future of Work (RFBerlin), a research institute focused on applied and data-driven research, is seeking a research assistant to provide support to a project about migration flows across African countries and to Europe, led by Jérôme Adda and Giacomo Battiston.

The research assistant will support the research team in the estimation of a discrete choice dynamic structural econometrics model. Tasks will include, but will not be limited to, code optimization and parallelization on GPUs using Numpy, Scipy, and Numba Cuda libraries in Python, as well as data cleaning using the Panda library. Other tasks will include collecting data on migration flows from policy briefs. The research assistant will work under the supervision of the members of the research team, using top-notch computing resources.

This is a part-time position that offers flexible hours, allowing candidates to balance
work and their studies. We aim for the position to start as soon as possible, after the end
of the selection process. The contract is expected to last for 3 months, although the
duration can change depending on the availability of the candidate and the needs of
the research team

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled as a master or bachelor student in data science, computer science, economics, statistics, or related disciplines.
  • Good coding skills with Python and Stata.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • (optional) interest in working with migration data.
